Principia goes Open Source!!
From their twitter:
"We've decided to open source Principia. Lots of code gems in it, including multi-threaded box2d. More info soon."

I don't know what this means, but it surely sounds exciting!!
:D

Wishlist of mod-features:
-Multiplayer
-Speed-up time when you test levels
-More layers
-A drawing tool so you can sketch stuff in edit mode, so it gets easier to make complex shapes.

  • PeterZ: @sdac: sooooo
  • BobMonkeypimp: @HAVOk1211: Why? The lua can be as simple or complex as you're willing to learn.
  • HAVOk1211: A simplified lua
  • RasmusOlle: @sjoerd1999: saw some, but got a bit bored early on
  • sjoerd19992: Did you guys know Pajlada is actually streaming quite often at Twitch?
He does a lot of programming on there, and even does a bit of Principia.
  • RasmusOlle: https://mobile.twitter.com/bithack/status/720954017367658496
  • Linux: @sjoerd1999: i hate ios so for me yes
  • sjoerd19992: @Golden: @Linux: Would an IOS version be hard to make?
  • Chad64: uhh, has everyone totally forgotten about contests already. I haven't even joined an official one yet
  • Golden: @Linux: it's not a mod, it's a important plugins
  • Linux: @Golden: you could make a mod for it when I'm done I'm just going to make a modloader and sort of update the game( and make it so every level will have deratives probably)
  • Golden: @Linux: I would make multiplayer
  • Linux: @BobMonkeypimp: this would be so that they can download multiple mods without have to re download principa, also chances are its source will be one that you will have to use Linux to build(complete a package)
  • Linux: @BobMonkeypimp: a custom update, adding all the hidden objects and texture pack support custom modeling support, custom sounds support, mods will have ability to modify objects and game mechanics, and possibly add objects
  • BobMonkeypimp: @Linux: That side of it is good but if lots of people have different mods it's going to be difficult to keep up. I look forward to seeing what you come up with though.
  • Linux: @BobMonkeypimp: I think I'm going to make a modloader for principa
  • BobMonkeypimp: @wokstation: Bithack seem happy about it but I don't think this will end well. Considering how well we've kept this community running, I'd have thought they'd have at least asked our opinion on this decision.

  • RasmusOlle: @BobMonkeypimp: I agree, it's kind of becoming an education and a learning tool
  • wokstation22: ketchup.

    Wha'?
  • BobMonkeypimp: @RasmusOlle: We've managed really well considering they couldn't even be bothered to appear here except in ultra rare occasions. Now they're rewarding us by completely ruining Principia.
  • RasmusOlle: And they do this while they're ~4 months late on Evenite

gg, Bithack. Don't do deadlines you can't keep
  • RasmusOlle: @BobMonkeypimp: Yeah, open source & linked to a website could lead to many troubles

    Just look at infiniminer
  • BobMonkeypimp: @RasmusOlle: I'm not feeling too confident about the outcome either.
  • RasmusOlle: am I the only one thinking of the negative things that'll happen?
  • sjoerd19992: Could you run it on ios once it's open source?
  • principiafreak300: @sdac: Will it be on bithack/principia?
  • principiafreak300: @Linux: Yeah! Playing it on raspberry pi!
  • Linux: @sdac: thank you i love you guys fpr this i may port it to linux
  • Tesla03Coil: So sad, i have no internet connection on my pc, i only play on android
  • Chad64: @rutkayMIMAR: ill make Crazy Taxi if that happens
  • Golden: @rutkayMIMAR: yeah man :D even multiplayer, I could try code to make it multiplayer, I think it need a servers to host multiplayer, hmm
  • rutkayMIMAR: Oh god! More layers!!!
  • Hobbit: @principiafreak300: Running them should be no problem, but compatibility will become an issue as with any open source program. But if we work hard enough we all can figure out how to do it, open source can be quirky.
  • JOELwindows7: @Golden: woot?! Ok Google, fly me to that octo cat!, BOOOOOM! (sonic boom)
@sdac: oh yeah! Is it yippie now? Wow, you are 180° more Awesome
  • Golden: @that guy: 😂 I was worried if someone can hack my account
  • that guy2: @sdac: Do you know where I can get a copy of all the code, in case there's an apocalypse?
  • Golden: @sdac: I was curious what made ya decide open source, is it just for training programmers or something?
  • sdac: @JOELwindows7: we will upload it to GitHub soon, and the license will be BSD 3 clause
  • Golden: @JOELwindows7: it's on GitHub
  • principiafreak300: @Hobbit: Hm, I don't mean coding, I mean running mods on Android. Underpowered? A Nexus 5 and underpowered?
  • Hobbit: @principiafreak300: I would imagine you will have to do it all from PC. Android is just to unstable and underpowered to do that much coding, I think, some devices may work okay. I would imagine that we will get a lot of crashing from new objects across various devices.
  • JOELwindows7: @sdac: oh yeah one more, how with about Tesla Plushies? Will yiu consider it?
  • JOELwindows7: Souce?! Source!
  • JOELwindows7: @sdac: my question to you: where will you put the souce code on? Is it GitHub or Source Forge or GitLab?
Personally, I preffer GitHub for the best contributional features.
And, what license you would like to use?
  • principiafreak300: Can someone ask them this?
  • principiafreak300: @sjoerd1999: @Chad64: @The Ohio One: @Hobbit: Does anyone know how this should work on android? Can you install apk-mods or what? PS: No one will buy Principia then cause the source code is avaiable for everyone. You just have to compile it
  • Hobbit: Soon everything will be open source, it's just the best way to improve things. I have cast off Microsoft and use only Linux or Ubuntu, and I've never been happier.
  • The Ohio One: Yeah, so it will be a lot easier to mod things and create your own stuff
  • Chad64: omfg then dis is gonna be the new gmod?? can i add a trollface block?? i need to install twitter now
  • sjoerd19992: So if I'm correct, once it goes open source, you can modify the game code, and for example add new objects in there?
